Hillary: Exploit financial crisis for CO2 regulation

March 6, 2009

Reuters reports that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told a group of young Europeans at the European Parliament that,

“Never waste a good crisis … Don’t waste it when it can have a very positive impact on climate change and energy security… “Certainly the United States has been negligent in living up to its responsibilities.”

In what can only be viewed as a comical lack of self-awareness, she also chastised Russia for using energy as a political weapon against Ukraine in recent years:

“We are … troubled by using energy as a tool of intimidation… We think that’s not in the interest of creating a better and better functioning energy system.”

Is anyone “troubled” about the greens using the financial crisis as a political weapon?

Laddybuck, we are married to hydrocarbons for the foreseeable future. They make up 99% of the transport sector energy. Even if you could wave your hand and make them all electric (including ships and airplanes – good luck) you’d have to double the electric capacity of the US – which is 50+% COAL, ~20% natural gas and ~15% Nuclear now.

Now come up with a plan to leave hydrocarbons out of that equation and hand it over right now!

  2. The one redeeming characteristic of Liberal Socialists like Hillary and O’Boy is that their stupidity and utter ignorance of objective reality reveals itself regularly. I mean – how can it not?

The reason Putin can push around Europe is he has spare hydrocarbons. If the Europeans don’t like paying Putin, they need to turn to alternative supplies of hydrocarbons or alternative ways of making electricity.
